Letting God Fill Every Room of Your House

This quote has been on my mind for a few weeks now, but I haven’t been able to remember it in its entirety. So I searched it up, and the quote goes something like this, “Jesus may have a room in your house, but He wants the whole house.”.

And I can’t remember where I first heard this, but I know that in this season of my life Jesus keeps reminding me of it. He keeps reminding me that He wants every room of my house.

And so as I was searching for that quote I came across another blog, and in the blog the girls spoke about each room of a literal house likening them to rooms of their hearts, and so I thought that I would do the same…

But before doing so let’s talk a bit more on that quote I mentioned earlier…

“Jesus may have a room in your house, but He wants the whole house.”

Recently God has really been challenging me to go deeper in Him, and not in a sense of just spending more time in prayer or reading more chapters of the Word (which yes is definitely apart of going deeper). But more in making room for Him, so getting rid of distractions and things that feed the natural rather than the supernatural. And I feel like this quote goes hand in hand with that revelation of making room for Jesus so that He can do ALL that He wants to do in my life. When we allow Jesus to have the WHOLE HOUSE rather than just a room or two, we allow Him to do what He wants to do and use us in the capacity that only He can allow us to be used.

And as-well as wanting Jesus to have access so He can do all that He wants to do, I am realising that we have a very real enemy that actually cannot stand us as sons and daughters of the Most High. And so any entry point of access he can get best believe he will take it. And so when we limit God’s access to all the rooms of our houses (lives) whether we like it or not we give the enemy direct access and a foothold into areas of our lives.

And so here’s a floor plan for a random house that I found, so use your imagination and imagine that this is a sketch of the rooms of the different areas of your house which will act as a metaphor for your life…

LIVING ROOM/SITTING ROOM:

The living room is a representation of what we entertain ourselves with. And so here we must ask ourselves the question does God have access to what we entertain?

Nowadays I feel as though TV isn’t really as much of as issue as it was before, I think in this generation our biggest entertainment distractions are movies, series and social media…

As mentioned before in a previous blog post something that God really convicted me on was what I used to watch. The way I used to binge watch Netflix series was horrendous. Not only was it a waste of time, but absolute compromise. How could I as a christian wanting to see the supernatural, still be entertaining things that go completely against Him. And for a while I would try and ignore conviction and dismiss myself by saying well it’s okay because I skip the “bad” scenes or at least it’s not me cussing so it’s okay.

BUT the Bible says in Matthew 6:22, “The eyes are like a lamp for the body. If your eyes are sound, your whole body will be full of light; but if your eyes are no good, your body will be in darkness. So if the light in you is darkness, how terribly dark it will be!”.

Psalm 5:4 tells us that “He is not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness, nor shall any evil dwell with Him.” This scripture tells us that God and wickedness do not mix. So the same goes for what we entertain, whether that’s on Netflix, Instagram, TikTok (what we sit scrolling through feeding ourselves) or music!

An easy way to assess whether we have allowed God to have a place in this room is by evaluating what we entertain… is it carnal, sinful, because if it is He isn’t there.

WARDROBE:

Now I know the wardrobe isn’t a room, but I think it’s a good representation of asking ourselves do we allow God into the area of how we present ourselves through the way we dress?

And holll uppp, I am not hear to do the whole what is and isn’t modest debate… Personally I believe that there is a clear line (very very extremely clear line) between what is and isn’t modest, I don’t think the lines are very blurry. But then I do also believe that everyone has different convictions, but I also don’t think we should allow that to be an excuse to ignore clear obvious conviction from God.

But anyways… what we wear. Does God have a say in this? As ladies do we respect ourselves as daughters of the King. As I said before I’m not here to say what we all should and shouldn’t be wearing. But for me personally I know that there have been times I’ll go to put something on and I just know that God is telling me not to.

And it’s not only to respect myself, but also those around me. Definitely do not want to be presenting myself in any immodest way in front of my brothers BUT also one that God has really been speaking to me about is the example I show to other ladies especially younger ladies around me.

So yah, definitely one to consider :)

BEDROOM:

Now, the bedroom represents purity. Does God have access to your purity?

I think this is a massively important room in the houses of our lives. Mostly because in the world we live in today this is one of the prime areas that Satan will try and sabotage people - even christians…

I think this room is also incredibly important as-well because I think that the way we handle our purity in singleness will determine the health of our future marriages. And Satan knows this, so alot of the times I think he will get us to compromise and see “how far we can push it” because he knows that the more we taint ourselves now the more there is to clean up later on…

& obviously for this one there is the clear area of keeping ourselves till marriage. But I think a lot of the times we as humans like to blur the lines in-between and dismiss the quote on quote “smaller” areas… because purity is also what we watch. What we listen to. What we think. What comes out our mouths. The conversations we have with guys… (girls if you’re a guy lol).

DISCLAIMER: no one is perfect, we have all sinned and fallen short. And God is able to purify and clean any and everyone. So no condemnation round here. So we’re not to be dwelling on past mistakes but more focusing on how we can walk in purity going forward to allow God to gain access rather than Satan. Because I’m not sure about you but I DEFINITELY do not want him to access in that area of my life pls and tankssss :)

PAUSE, guys I’m halfway through this and didn’t realise that I would chat this much. So I’m gonna split this into two so it’s more realistic for you guys to read lol.

So stay tuned for the next one… &&& let me know of any rooms in our lives you can think of where we need to allow God in :)
